Welcome to Capernaum

Today we embarked on an unforgettable tour of Capernaum, often referred to as Jesus' own city. Nestled on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, this historical site was more than just a hub of activity; it was the very center of Jesus' ministry. As we walked through its sun-soaked streets, the rich history echoed in every corner, reminding us of its significance to early Christianity and the life of Jesus.

Chorazim: A Lesson in Unbelief

Our next stop was Chorazim, a city mentioned in Matthew 11:21, where Jesus famously condemned its inhabitants for their lack of belief. While Chorazim is in ruins today, the remnants of its once-thriving community tell stories of what could have been. The significance of this site lies not only in its past but also in the lessons it offers about faith and recognition of spiritual truths. Walking through the remnants of the ancient basalt synagogue, we could almost hear the echoes of Jesus’ voice urging the community toward belief.

Tabgha: The Miracle of Loaves and Fishes

Next on our journey was Tabgha, a serene site famous for the miracle of the loaves and fishes. This location, marked by a tranquil church and beautiful gardens, represents one of the most beloved stories in the New Testament, where Jesus fed thousands with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Standing here, it’s easy to appreciate the miracle’s significance—not just as a historical event, but as a profound lesson in sharing and abundance. The beauty of this place adds an extra layer of spiritual insight, making it a must-visit destination for any believer or seeker.

Hometown of Mary Magdalene: Magdala

Our tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Magdala, the ancient hometown of Mary Magdalene. Here, we discovered a well-preserved synagogue that is believed to have been a teaching place for Jesus himself. The sense of connection deepened as we walked through the remains, imagining the impactful teachings that took place in that very setting. Magdala stands as a testament to the women's role in Jesus' ministry, highlighting figures like Mary who played crucial roles in the early church.

Capernaum, Chorazim, Tabgha, and Magdala each offers unique insights and reflections on the life and teachings of Jesus. Our tour today reminded us of the vibrant history that continues to speak into the present day, inviting us all to a deeper understanding of faith and community.

Peter’s Home

Capernaum was not only a bustling center for Jesus’ teachings but also the home of Peter, one of his closest disciples. The archaeological site offers a palpable sense of connection to the New Testament narratives. As we strolled near the remains of an ancient house believed to be Peter's, it was astonishing to consider that the very son of God shared meals and moments with his followers right in this spot. The atmosphere here is charged with a deep sense of spirituality and history. This was also the location where Jesus healed the paralytic who was let down through the roof
