Dipping into the Dead Sea

Following our historical adventures, it was time to unwind at the Dead Sea, known for its mineral-rich waters and unique buoyancy. We took a dip in the salty waters, floating effortlessly while applying the renowned mud to our skin. The therapeutic effects of the minerals, including magnesium and potassium, are said to rejuvenate the body. The experience was not just about relaxation; it was truly an indulgence in nature's spa.

As the sun began to set over the horizon, casting beautiful hues of orange and pink across the sky, we reflected on our day filled with adventure, history, and relaxation. Masada, Qumran, and the Dead Sea each offered a unique glimpse into the past and the wonders of nature. If you ever find yourself in this part of the world, make sure to add these incredible destinations to your travel itinerary!

Our Adventure to Masada

Today, we embarked on an incredible journey to Masada, the ancient fortress that stands tall against the backdrop of the desert. Known for its historical significance, Masada is where Jewish rebels made their last stand against the Romans in 73 AD. As we approached the site, the grandeur of the fortress left us in awe. Riding the cable car to the summit, we couldn't help but feel the weight of history surrounding us. Masada is from King Herod's era of palaces, fortresses, and bath houses. The walls of Masada are marked with black lines: below the lines are the stone walls that archeologists found, having arrived here in 1960, and above the lines is what has been added to recreate the buildings. History has it written that a woman found a date pit here, took it home, and grew a date palm tree, the beginning of date palm tree plantings in Jericho. The main palace is a mix of Roman and Greek architecture which is a statement of "who I am" by King Herod.

Unearthing the Mysteries of Qumran

After soaking in the stunning views from Masada, we headed to Qumran, a place that is steeped in mystery and fascination. It's here that the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947, providing invaluable insights into ancient Judaism. Our guide shared captivating tales about the Essenes, a Jewish sect believed to have lived in the caves. Although we were unable to get up close or even inside the caves, we still were able to experience the Bedouin goat-herders environment. These are not our pictures.
